2008 C-USA OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP LIVE RESULTS

IRVING, Texas - Houston's Wesley Bray pulled away from Rice's Phillip Adam to win the men's decathlon at the 2008 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Kidd Field in El Paso, Texas. Bray, who only led by only 79 points heading into today's final five events, tallied 6,904 points to Adam's 6,756 for the individual crown. Southern Miss' Leonard McLeggon racked up all-conference third team honors by finishing with 6,236 points.

Bray finished among the top three in nine of the 10 events, winning three. Sheree Carter of UCF held on for a commanding victory in the women's heptathlon. The junior won four of the eight events and became the first Knight female to win a C-USA Outdoor Championship title.

Making the biggest advancement in today's finals was Tulsa's Brianna Steel. Steel concluded day one in eighth place, out of eight competitors, with just 2,666 points. However, she rallied back to win silver with an impressive 1,837 point performance today for a total of 4503 points.

SMU's Lauren Kuhner placed third in the event with 4,453 points, edging out Tulane's Arielle Minor by two points (4,551 pts.) for all-conference honors.

The finals of the women's shot put, pole vault, long jump, javelin and high jump as well as the men's long jump, shot put and javelin will take place later tonight.

C-USA All-Conference honors are awarded to the top three finishers in each event. The individual champions are named to the first team, while second-place finishers are awarded second team honors and the third team is comprised of bronze medalist.

Friday's running events get underway at 5:30 p.m. MT with the women's 1500-meters and wraps up with the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 9:20 p.m. The majority of Friday's events are preliminary races, building up to Saturday's championship races starting at 5 p.m.
