Rice to Open CWS Play on Sunday

Wayne Graham's Rice Owls (47-13) will open their 2008 College World Series schedule on Sunday afternoon when they take on Fresno State at Rosenblatt Stadium at 1:00 p.m. CDT. The game will be telecast on ESPN (HD) and also be broadcast on KTRU (91.7 FM) in Houston. The schedule for first round games of the 2008 College World Series was announced this afternoon by the NCAA. Stanford and Florida State will open the CWS when the schools meet at 1:00 on Saturday, followed by a 6:00 showdown between Georgia and top-ranked Miami. After the Owls play on Sunday afternoon, LSU will meet second-ranked North Carolina to wrap up the first round of games. Rice and North Carolina are both appearing in the school's third consecutive College World Series. This is the Owls seventh trip to Omaha since their first appearance in 1997.
